YMCA of Greater Kansas City Infant/Toddler Lead Teacher in Kansas City, Missouri
Under the supervision of the Early Learning Director, the Lead Teacher is professionally responsible at all times for the general and specific supervision of the classroom encompassing the children and assistant(s) if any. In the licensing, QRS and accreditation process and throughout the year the Lead Teacher is responsible for continued compliance with the Child Care Licensing regulations, QRS and accreditation standards at all times.
Contribute to the overall YMCA mission of healthy living, youth development and social responsibility.
Application of principles of quality early childhood education and programming.
Public relations and leadership skills in working with perspective prospects, program parents, Early Learning staff, state licensing representatives and YMCA staff.
Sensitivity to clientele and staff representing a variety of family, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Active involvement with, and supervision of children required at all times.
Manages staff-to-child ratios within licensing standards and according to YMCA policies for classroom coverage.
Prepares weekly lesson plans, monthly newsletters and other forms of communication to establish educational learning opportunities for children.
Implements lesson plan as assigned and according to licensing, accreditation, ITER’s and ECER’s and YMCA guidelines.
Assists in preparing and serving snacks according to the established menu, health and sanitation guideline while encouraging family style meals.
Prepares materials, activities and environment ahead of time, as needed or assigned.
Maintains accurate attendance records and meal count records where appropriate.
Monitors equipment and facility for safety and security purposes and follows through on concerns in a timely manner.
Cleans and picks up areas used by the program daily.
Has the ability to work with children with or without special needs.
Observes, assesses and contributes to the compilation of the child’s portfolio on a regular basis.
Creates and updates children’s portfolio’s.
Takes the initiative without being told what to do.
Communicates important program issues and information to the assistant teacher and Early Learning Director.
Communicates program information to parents and answers questions accurately and with confidence, and shares with the director.
Communicates supply and equipment requests accurately and in a timely manner.
Ensures that the program is operated in a safe and purposeful manner, insuring that all licensing, QRS, accreditation and YMCA guidelines are met or exceeded.
Assists in insuring adequate staff coverage at all times.
Offers two parent/teacher conferences each school year.
Be a team player with all staff; will assist in other classrooms and / or centers as requested.
Attends all staff meetings.
All child care staff are mandated by the state of Kansas and Missouri to report suspected child abuse and neglect and must notify appropriate staff of any suspected abuse, unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accidents or injuries immediately.
CDA, AA or working toward CDA, AA, or BA/BS in Early Childhood Education.
One year experience in a group setting.
Commitment and desire to provide premiere child care services at all levels.
