Social Workers at Children's Mercy are an integral part of the health care team. The Department of Social Work provides comprehensive and compassionate family-centered services to children and their families to enhance their quality of life while in the hospital, at home, at school, and within their community.

Job Responsibilities:

Social Workers at Children's Mercy provide a wide array of services to children, and families. One of the key roles of the Social Worker is to complete comprehensive psychosocial assessments and develop care plans in conjunction with the family, medical team and other disciplines. We also provide clinical interventions including counseling, crisis intervention, short term therapy, care coordination, and resource acquisition. Additional duties include coordination of team conferences and facilitation of psycho-education groups. Social Workers at Children's Mercy advocate for children and families to overcome systemic barriers to accessing health care and other needed resources within hospital and community. Being a part of an academic medical institution Social Workers have unique opportunities to be involved in both research and quality improvement initiatives. Many of these initiatives are focused on the social determinants of health and how psychosocial care impacts health outcomes.

Job Requirements:

  • Masters degree in Social Work

  • MSW from Accredited Program

  • 1 year experience

  • Social Work License in KS or MO upon hire (if working in KS, must have KS License upon hire. Must be dually licensed in KS AND MO within first 90 days of employment)

  • Clinical license (preferred)

  • Minimum typing speed: 35 wpm

  • Medical terminology

  • Computer literate
