Clinical Educational Specialist

Centers Health Care is actively seeking a Clinical Educational Specialist for our Skilled Nursing Facilities in Kansas and Missouri.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Clinical Educational Specialist (CES) functions as a nurse clinician for multiple facility sites in the area of Education and Development. The role encompasses expert practitioner, consultant, educator, facilitator and role model for all nursing staff at multiple locations.

Goals of the role are growth and development of nursing staff and nursing care, which will be evidenced by role performance, competent quality care delivery, and improved clinical outcomes. The role will provide ongoing review and educational delivery through the oversight and further development of center-specific approaches, such as orientation and skills curriculum, knowledge proficiency, mentoring, and nursing practice and process development, to include policy and procedure education, development, evaluation, and maintenance.

Keys to the Clinical Educational Specialist role are observation/assessment and identification of staff learning needs and system development.

The Clinical Educational Specialist has the opportunity to “think out of the box”, for exciting development and implementation of educational programs, learner responses and the overall Center’s outcome.

The Clinical Educator may have expertise in a specific area such as wound care, infusion therapy, or infection control and will utilize this specialty focus to support area and facility-specific goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • The Clinical Educational Specialist responsibilities and accountabilities include but are not limited to orientation, didactic, skills competency, “in the moment” coaching and role modeling, ongoing role performance competency, evidenced-based and current educational and clinical programming that encompasses patient care and the centers practices, clinical rounding identifying “teachable moments” and demonstration, the utilization of a tracking and trending educational system, documentable evidence of policy and procedure clinical practice/care delivery, and oversight of evaluation of performance

  • The Clinical Education Specialist collaborates with the Corporate Education Department to assess facility clinical capabilities and educational needs and provide consistent, quality clinical education and training

  • The CES will present clinical education programs in response to assessed staff needs

  • The CES will assist centers to implement clinical orientation programs to prepare newly hired staff to meet the needs of the changing population

  • Participates as appropriate on assigned Corporate Practice Councils

Additional responsibilities for the Clinical Educator include:

  • Collaborate with area management teams to determine specific needs.

  • Collaborate with Divisional Presidents and Regional Nurses to monitor area and center outcomes in order to identify patterns/trends, and to intervene appropriately.

  • Maintain specialty expertise through professional and educational memberships, meetings, and workshops.

  • Provide opportunities for facility staff to obtain or maintain clinical competencies.

SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The Clinical Educational Specialist must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current registered nurse (RN) licensure by the State Board of Nursing

  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred

  • A minimum of three years full-time or equivalent nursing experience is required and a minimum of two years of nursing experience in long-term care nursing with one year in a management/administrative or supervisory capacity is preferred

  • Previous experience teaching adults is preferred

  • Must be able to work flexible hours in order to meet with employees working evening and night shifts

  • The position will report to the Corporate Director of Education and Development
