Walgreens Pharmacy Resident - St Louis College of Pharmacy at UHSP in SAINT LOUIS, Missouri
Walgreens and St. Louis College of Pharmacy at University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis (UHSP) are committed to providing the PGY1 community-based pharmacy resident with an exceptional postgraduate educational training experience. The purpose of this residency program is to provide the resident with the experience and ability to provide, advance and evaluate patient care services in the community and to enhance teaching skills in both the didactic and experiential environments. Furthermore, Walgreens seeks to enable residents to achieve their professional goals, become a leader within the profession, provide compassionate care for members of their communities, and contribute to the Walgreens Company’s advancement in health care.
The main practice site for the resident is a Walgreens Pharmacy, located approximately one mile from campus. This pharmacy has a separate patient care center that offers unique opportunities to provide care for patients with a variety of chronic disease states. The resident will also have the opportunity to gain experience providing advanced specialty care to patients at a local specialty pharmacy. This residency also emphasizes developing skills related to community outreach and professional advocacy.
The resident will have opportunities with both experiential and didactic teaching at St. Louis College of Pharmacy at UHSP. The resident will develop and execute a lecture to pharmacy students, and have an opportunity to serve as a skills lab facilitator during the spring semester. A teaching certificate program is available through the University’s Resident Education Academy.
Upon completion of this program, the resident will have acquired an advanced skill set and be prepared to assume a leadership role in advancing the profession of pharmacy and community pharmacy practice.
-Disease state management in HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, organ transplant, and oncology
-Develop and present community outreach presentations for patients, caregivers, and case managers
-Medication therapy management (MTM)
-Recommend and administer routine and travel immunizations
-Conduct Travel Health consultations
-Enhance existing or develop new patient care programs
-Design and conduct independent, practice-based research
-Present research findings at regional and national meetings
-Provide clinical instruction to student pharmacists in didactic and experiential environments
-Complete a structured teaching and learning curriculum
-Gain pharmacy business and management leadership skills

External Basic Qualifications:
Doctor of Pharmacy degree from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education
Ability to obtain pharmacist license within the state of residency within 90 days of the start of the residency program
Submission of residency application materials to Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS)
Individuals must participate in and adhere to the rules of the ASHP Resident Matching Program.
Certified Immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
Prefer to have prior work experience with Walgreens.
Prefer good math skills so they can fill prescriptions accurately, including counting, measuring and weighing medications.
