Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Associate VC Diversity & Inclusion. The position is located at the Mid Campus Center. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Washington University School of Medicine is responsible for providing leadership, expertise and advocacy on all diversity, equity and inclusion efforts within Washington University School of Medicine. The Education Specialist with work with the Director of Programming and Professional Development to provide and support education and professional development for all faculty, staff, and trainees that enhances the culture and climate of the institution. The person in this role must have expertise in diversity, equity and inclusion content and education. They need to be creative, flexible, strategic and a strong communicator who can work well with people from all backgrounds as well as departments of different sizes and focuses across the institution. The Education Specialist’s primary role is to facilitate training and help develop other mediums for learning and skill building across campus. This role will support the overall mission of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) through curriculum, programming, and professional development. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Collaborate and Create * Collaborate with ODEI/WUSM faculty and staff, on the design of courses and learning sessions. * Provide subject matter expertise in the creation of content for training, courses and instruction sessions. * Provide assistance with the creation of learning materials/media supporting learning objectives. * Work collaboratively with other School of Medicine curriculum specialists to create interactive videos and other multimedia for instruction needs. * Develop innovative educational frameworks for programming, seminars, conferences, and in-service programs. 2. Coordinate and Maintain * Educational materials to support on-going learning, skill building and culture change strategies, tailored to specific roles within the institution. * Consistent forms of communication about the programming and professional development opportunities offered by the Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion including but not limited to the ODEI listserv. * Work in conjunction with the ODEI Content Strategist to create innovative programming and communication opportunities to inform the WUSM campus community about the ODEI successes and best practices across campus. 1. Support Programming and Professional Development * In updating the ODEI website and aligning communication efforts. * Ensuring training and education opportunities align with other ODEI team efforts and campus partners for staff, faculty and trainees with curriculum for students. 4. Other Duties as Assigned Required Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree in education, instructional design, public health, social work, sociology, or other related field. * Five (5) years of experience providing dynamic group facilitation and training curriculum for adult learners in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Preferred Qualifications * Superior group facilitation, written and oral communication skills. * Demonstrated commitment to and evidence of contributing to the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion goals within an organization. * Experience in a higher education setting. * Experience developing curriculum, training, learning materials and programming for diversity, equity and inclusion. * Experience/Expertise with PowerPoint or other presentation software and Word. * Working knowledge of effective web-based communication. * Highly organized and detail-oriented. * Proficiency in facilitation, training delivery, and instructional design. * Advanced knowledge and detailed understanding of training theories, methodologies, and techniques (i.e. adult learning theory). * Interpersonal skills, sensitivity to and ability to navigate group and organizational dynamics. * Advanced verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. * Strong active facilitation skills and ability to develop and navigate dynamic learning spaces. * Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and to navigate difficult conversations regarding diversity, equity, & inclusion, particularly in academic medicine or healthcare settings. * Complex reasoning and critical thinking abilities. * Ability to design, plan and manage multiple projects with minimal supervision and meet deadlines. * Working knowledge of general office equipment, computers, calculator; proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint; experience with various graphic design and web design software tools as well basic HTML, strong working knowledge of digital communication platforms. * Knowledge of Qualtrics and Cornerstone platforms a plus. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $56,472 - $73,403 annually.
