Essential Functions

The Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures at Washington University in St. Louis is seeking a full-time Lecturer at the beginning, mid-career, or senior level to serve as our pedagogy specialist. The successful candidate for this appointment will begin in fall 2019 and will be eligible for renewal and promotion up to the rank of Teaching Professor, as outlined in the Arts & Sciences Policy on Full-Time Teaching-Track Faculty.

The appointee will assume a variety of responsibilities related to the core language program, in a department with active faculty engagement at all levels of undergraduate and graduate instruction. Duties will include teaching and coordinating core language courses and supervising graduate student instructors in these courses, teaching graduate-level seminars in foreign language pedagogy, and working with colleagues on curriculum development, annual departmental assessment, and strategic planning for both the undergraduate and graduate programs. The successful candidate will be expected to develop collaborative projects with other programs and with Washington University’s Teaching Center and to remain current on advances in the field of foreign language pedagogy. Opportunities to teach additional courses in the Department of Germanic Languages & Literatures or in other departments will be based on qualifications and departmental needs. The department will support the successful candidate in pursuing opportunities for professional development during the duration of the appointment.

Required Qualifications

We seek applicants with proven records of excellence in undergraduate teaching as well as evidence of ongoing engagement in the profession through one or more of the following: conference presentations, textbook authorship, publications, organization of workshops and/or outreach activities, and the creation of innovative digital resources. PhD in hand at start of appointment.

Salary Range

Base pay commensurate with experience.
