Washington University of St. Louis Physician Assistant - Radiation Oncology - 50609 in St. Louis, Missouri

Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Radiation Oncology, Clinical Divisions. The Physician Assistant may be required to travel to other Siteman Cancer Center campus including our facilities in South County, West County, and Illinois. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: The physician assistant will assist in providing total holistic care within the confines of a team approach that includes a radiation oncologist, radiation therapist, nurses, social worker, dietician, and residents. The physician assistant will provide consultation to newly diagnosed patients under the direction of a physician; conduct complete physicals and provide ongoing assessment of radiation related symptoms; provide emotional and psychological support to patients and families as needed; and provide education to patients and families. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides comprehensive management services for study patients including but not limited to: monitors participating subjects, performing physical examinations, obtaining medical histories, monitoring patient’s adherences to protocols, coordinating with the clinical research coordinator screening for research studies, medication administration and providing family/patient education. 2. Takes an active role in triage, advising patients, assessing needs and referring to appropriate personnel. 3. Monitors medical condition of patients, documenting charts and reporting changes as necessary. 4. Orders, interprets, and contacts patient regarding diagnostic test results. 5. Prescribes therapy or medication with physician approval, if required. 6. Administers or orders diagnostic test, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory test. 7. Performs therapeutic procedures, as outlined in the scope of practice document. 8. Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with established clinic/hospital standards. 9. Writes initial health histories, assesses patients’ conditions and develops individual care plans for patients assigned. 10. Prepares patient for scheduled procedures and assists the physician in patient assessment. 11. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards. 12. Monitors/ensures accuracy of patient medical records, maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc. 13. Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops. 14. Bills for professional services as permitted by the collaborative practice agreement. Required Qualifications * Graduate of PA program. * REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION: Current PA license to practice in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, as applicable by state of work location, or ability to obtain within 3 months of date of hire. Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty; Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements). Preferred Qualifications * Working knowledge of physician assistant theory and practice. * One to three years of experience. * Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $78,915 - $142,084.
