This position is full-time and works approximately 37.5 hours per week.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the individual hired for this position will work remotely. Depending on the course of the pandemic, the individual hired for this position may work in an office setting at the George Warren Brown School of Social Work, main campus location.

Essential Functions


A qualified individual is needed for a research assistant position with Dr. Lindsay Stark at the George Warren Brown School of Social Work. The research assistant will spend the majority of their time assisting multiple global projects funded by CARE International, Qatar Foundation International, Women’s Refugee Commission, and UNICEF . Additional projects will likely emerge. They will work as part of a team and individually to perform duties and responsibilities required to meet project needs.


  1. Assist with primary data collection and qualitative data analysis, including identifying potential key informants, transcription and coding.
  2. Assist the team with preparing and submitting research ethics board applications to the Wash U IRB and managing any necessary renewals/requests. Tasks may include collecting information required to complete new applications and modifications or assisting with drafting research protocols.
  3. Conduct literature review, analysis, and writing to support research projects and grant applications. Serve as responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and synthesizing existing literature and translating results of the literature review into language tailored to various audiences.
  4. Provide project and administrative support, including assisting with scheduling meetings or conference calls, supporting manuscript and conference submissions, and collecting necessary documentation from consultants to process invoices.
  5. Contribute to the preparation of working papers, reports, presentations, and other publications. Tasks may include writing, updating bibliographies, reference style compliance verification, and proofreading.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, social sciences, organizational management, or other related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Experience conducting public presentations.
  • Experience performing literature search, summary, and analysis.
  • Experience with writing research, evaluation, and policy reports and briefs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public health, social work, social sciences, or other related field.
  • Experience designing search strategies and conducting literature reviews.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis.
  • Experience with community engagement.
  • Experience with gender-based violence programs, research, or policies.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software; Microsoft Office skills, such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and DropBox.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills.
  • Highly dependable and organized.
  • Ability to work independently, actively seek support and assistance when needed, and advocate for what will help the team achieve goals.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, collaborate closely with others, contribute to team discussions, and problem-solve in a supportive, relational way.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse groups, including faculty, staff, students, community groups, and international organizations.
  • Ability to work with multiple project teams at any given time and exercise sound judgment in dealing with competing priorities with little supervision.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $15.46 - $20.88 per hour.
